Protecting Our Vulnerable Duikers

As a vulnerable species, Blue Duikers are highly susceptible to habitat loss and predation from domestic pets. Here's how you can help protect them.

Coexistence Guidelines:

  • Preserve Undergrowth: Avoid clearing all the natural bush and undergrowth on your property. This provides vital cover and food for Duikers.
  • Keep Pets Contained: Free-roaming domestic dogs are a significant threat to these small antelope. Please ensure your pets are secure at all times.
  • Drive with Caution: Be extra vigilant when driving near forested areas and green belts, especially at dawn and dusk.
  • If You See One, Be Still: The best way to observe a Blue Duiker is to stop and remain quiet. They will quickly disappear if they feel threatened.
